Shopee: Malaysians are taking self-care more seriously

Shopee Malaysia data indicates that Malaysians are better adapted to feeling joy and showing appreciation to themselves in a post-pandemic world.

More Malaysians are going online for their self-care needs, according to shopping data observed by Shopee Malaysia. Since the pandemic began, demand for products that help shoppers improve their well-being, reward themselves, and reduce stress has increased by 6 times on the platform.

In 2021, Shopee has found that physical and environmental wellness rank among Malaysians' top needs when shopping online. In particular, 42% of products bought focused on physical wellness, 26% environmental wellness, 25% social well-being, with the remaining for psychological and spiritual wellness.

“These findings highlight how Malaysians' preferred ways of taking care of their well-being have evolved over the last two years, signaling the rise of new opportunities for self-discovery and personal growth. We are pleased to have been able to support Malaysians every step of the way, to help them discover what they need,” said Kenneth Soh, Head of Marketing Campaigns at Shopee Malaysia.

Malaysians are putting physical well-being as their top priority. Compared to 2019, Malaysians were 6 times more interested in purchasing items related to eating well, exercising, personal grooming, and personal hygiene. Personal grooming items were the most popular subcategory for physical self-care, with approximately one-third of these consisting of skincare products such as face masks, face scrubs and peels, makeup, facial oils, essence and serums.

Malaysians’ appear to be prioritizing more environmental self-care by creating healthier living environments, because demand for home improvement, decoration, and home organization increased the most at 10 times in the last two years on Shopee’s marketplace since 2019. For example, DIY supplies, fragrance and candles, artificial flowers and plants, wallpapers and wall art, shelf racks, desk organizers and storage baskets. This may not be surprising as many people would have had to reevaluate their living spaces if they spent more time working, home-schooling, or pursuing indoor related hobbies at home.

Looking at social well-being growth trends, Malaysians demanded 5 times more products to educate or nurture babies and pets in the last 2 years. Items sold related to pet supplies grew the fastest in this category, with pet toys, pet grooming, pet fashion, pet homes and pet accessories increasing 13 times from 2019 to 2021.

Shopee has also seen Malaysians gaining higher interest in learning new skills and cultivating hobbies such as reading, journaling, playing board games, and playing musical instruments, which provide a form of digital detox and promoting better psychological self-care. Items sold related to such hobbies have since grown an impressive 6 times in the last two years.

Malaysians are also embracing self-care offline, using digital payments. For the full year 2021 compared to pre-covid 2019, the adoption of ShopeePay, Shopee’s integrated mobile wallet, for self-care categories orders increased the most for sports and outdoor products, games, books and hobbies, and health and beauty. The highest uptake was for games, books, and hobbies, with a 60 times increase in adoption.

SPAN OFFERS RM200 VOUCHER TO BUY WATER-EFFICIENT WASHING MACHINES IN THE JIMAT AIR 1.0 CAMPAIGN

Suruhanjaya Perkhidmatan Air Negara (SPAN) is teaming up with Shopee to encourage Malaysians to use water-efficient products through the Jimat Air 1.0 campaign, from now to 31 December 2021.

Malaysian households will be provided with a RM200 voucher when buying the selected water-efficient washing machines approved by SPAN through the e-commerce platform. There are more than 200 types of washing machines carrying the “Jimat 1.0” tag for ease of identification, to be featured in this campaign via a microsite.

The Jimat Air 1.0 microsite can be found in the Buy Malaysia in-app portal on the Shopee app homepage. Users can also reach the microsite by typing “Jimat Air” or “SPAN on Shopee” at the search bar.

Dato' Haji Ahmad Faizal bin Abdul Rahman, SPAN Chief Executive Officer said “Due to the increase of economic activities and population as well as urbanization, clean water has already become a scarce commodity in the country, therefore, it is important to educate the mindsets of Malaysians towards water conservation. I am hoping that each Malaysian can gradually reduce the amount of water that they consume daily through the awareness of programs such as the Jimat Air 1.0 campaign. Our ultimate goal is to reduce the country’s water consumption from the current 241 litre per capita per day, to 160 litre per capita per day by 2030.”

Kenneth Soh, Shopee Senior Manager (Marketing) said “Water plays an important role in our daily lives. Everyone has their responsibility in ensuring sufficient resources for years to come. Besides environmental conservation, consumers will not only obtain the savings from the vouchers, but they will eventually be benefitting from the reduction of their water bills. We thank SPAN for allowing us to be a part of this campaign which has a lasting impact not just on the lives of people but also the environment.”

For greater savings and a more rewarding experience, Malaysians can also look for deals during the e-commerce platform’s 10.10 Brands Festival which will take place from 20 September till 10 October 2021. The 10.10 Brands Festival will be offering Free Shipping Vouchers with a minimum spend of RM10 and 50% off Big Brand Discounts, along with a chance to Tap and Win a Toyota Vios. FAMA AND SHOPEE TO INCREASE PARTICIPATION OF LOCAL FARMERS AND ENTREPRENEURS AFTER ENCOURAGING E-FAMAPLACE PERFORMANCE

The Federal Agriculture Marketing Authority (FAMA) and Shopee are looking to invite more local farmers and entrepreneurs into their eFAMAPLACE campaign after recording nine times return on investment (ROI) in just two months since the campaign began on 17 December 2020.

From left: Datin Rita Sosilawati, Erma Fatima (Mak Cun), and Senior Director of FAMA’s Market Promotion Division, Pn. Rosilawati Abu Hassan prepares local delicacies using the freshest ingredients from eFAMAPLACE on the 3.3 Mak Cun Supermarket Show on 1 March. Stay tuned on 3 March at 5PM for another FAMA edition on more mouth-watering recipes.

To digitalise marketing for Malaysia agrofood products, FAMA has established strategic collaboration with e-commerce operators including Shopee. eFAMAPLACE on Shopee is part of FAMA’s continuous efforts to help farmers and entrepreneurs open online stores and equip them with digital marketing knowledge. The aim is to prepare them for more challenges in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic. FAMA’s Agrobazaar Malaysia store on Shopee which opened in May 2020 has listed more than 250 products produced by local farmers and entrepreneurs.

The eFAMAPLACE features a microsite that is home to 7,000 items ranging from fruits and vegetables to seafood, poultry as well as flowers. Malaysians can find durian, tomatoes, starfruits, dragon fruits, beef, chicken, fresh cut flowers, orchids as well as anchovies, cooking paste, spices and more, making it a one-stop site to source for Malaysian agro-food products. To access the e-marketplace, Shopee users only need to type “FAMA” or “eFAMAPLACE” in the search bar.

The campaign now seeks to assist even more local farmers and entrepreneurs to set up their online stores on Shopee, and will collectively be marketed via the eFAMAPLACE microsite. To encourage users to purchase and support local products, FAMA has allocated 50,000 vouchers valued between RM5 to RM20 for the entire duration of the campaign till August 2021.The vouchers that have been redeemed in the past two months since 17 December 2020 so far have recorded more than half a million Ringgit in sales.

Dato’ Zainal Abidin Yang Razalli, Director General of FAMA said, “From the results thus far, we can see that digital marketing is essential. Therefore, FAMA will encourage our farmers and entrepreneurs to venture into digital marketing which enables them to market their products directly to consumers for everyone’s benefit. Our partnership with Shopee has proven to be an effective method to assist local farmers and entrepreneurs expand their market reach. Shopee has also committed to support the farmers and entrepreneurs with onboarding and education via Shopee University. We hope that these efforts will improve the standard of living for farmers and entrepreneurs nationwide.”

To match FAMA’s contribution, Shopee is providing support in the form of publicity and exposure to the sellers via its marketing assets on the App, website and through social media. Efforts by Shopee to promote local produce and products include dedicated livestreaming shows with Shopee Celebrity Squad A-lister Erma Fatima or better known as Mak Cun via its channel Shopee Live.

Commenting on the collaboration with FAMA, Ian Ho, Regional Managing Director of Shopee said, “In a win-win for local communities, we are able to give consumers access to agricultural products directly from the hands of the local farmers and entrepreneurs through this campaign. Our partnership with FAMA empowers the agricultural community and shows how e-commerce breaks longstanding divides between farmers, fishermen and the direct consumers of their goods. It is truly humbling to be given this opportunity to support the digitalisation of Malaysia’s agricultural economy by providing a robust ecosystem for fishermen and farmers to sell on.”

To know more about eFAMAPLACE, users can tune in to Shopee Live at 5PM on 1 and 3 March 2021 to catch the FAMA edition of the Mak Cun livestream series. FAMA, Shopee Host First Virtual Durian Fair

Hello Tuesday, how's everyone doing? Any Durian lovers here? If yes, stay on this page to read.

The Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) is working with Shopee, Malaysia’s no. 1 e-commerce platform on yet another initiative, the Durian E-Fiesta, as a display of commitment to its e-commerce agenda.

Dato’ Zainal Abidin bin Yang Razalli, Director General of FAMA said, “When the Covid-19 outbreak in Malaysia was at its peak back in March, it took the entire country by shock and various sectors including agriculture were no exception. Prior, no one thought they could sell their fresh and frozen produce online, but the outbreak led to many including farmers exploring selling online for the first time. This move is also in line with the Prime Minister’s hope that the business sector improve on e-trade and make it a new business channel. That is why, we are working with Shopee to further incentivize the agriculture sector to stay in the online game and more importantly, for more farmers to benefit from e-commerce, even post-RMCO. We will do this via a series of thematic campaigns starting with the Durian E-Fiesta on Shopee in conjunction with the durian season that is upon us.”
The Durian E-Fiesta on Shopee will be the first-ever virtual durian fair in Malaysia. Taking place from 15 to 19 July and featuring over 220 deals, durian lovers can choose from a myriad of durian species such as Musang King, Udang Merah, D24, Hor Lor, Kampung, amongst others.

As an impetus for enterprise transformation, both FAMA and Shopee will provide durian sellers with a boost through funding of attractive vouchers like the RM5 off with a minimum spend of RM1, RM20 off with a minimum spend of RM100 and more. Additionally, consumers can also find Musang King on Shocking Sale for only RM10 during the Durian E-Fiesta.

Commenting on the collaboration with FAMA, Ian Ho, Regional Managing Director of Shopee said, “It is usually the incubation period for both the sellers and consumers that is most difficult. First, we need to ensure that sellers stay in the system and that their service is up to par. Simultaneously, we have to train consumers' acceptance and get them used to buying their fresh produce online. Therefore, we are very encouraged to have a partner like FAMA that has a deep understanding of the e-commerce ecosystem and is willing to work with us to propel the digitalisation of Malaysia’s agriculture sector. Additionally, what better time than now to do this as Malaysians have an undeniable love for durian.”

Both organisations also accounted for those who do not appreciate the King of Fruits. The Durian E-Fiesta will also have other local selections such as mangosteen, mangoes, pineapples and more at the campaign. The first edition of this campaign will be limited to Klang Valley and to ensure the freshness of the fruits, deliveries will be made the following day once orders are placed.

Fruits, particularly durian sellers will receive maximum marketing support and exposure throughout the campaign via in-app banners, dedicated microsite, push notifications and more.

It is understood that FAMA and Shopee’s objective for this long-term partnership is to push the agriculture sector to be self-sustainable in the long run.

Shopee, on the other hand, revealed that over 2 tonnes (2,000kgs) of durians were sold on its platform within 24 hours upon receiving exposure in its 6.6 Super Sale campaign last June. Keyword ‘durian’ has also been one of consumers’ most searched words on the platform.
To satisfy your durian cravings, head over to https://shopee.com.my/m/durian-e-fiesta

In addition to the Durian E-Fiesta, FAMA will also be extending vouchers to customers who purchase products from their official store on Shopee.

Visit https://shopee.com.my/agrobazaar_fama to enjoy a RM10 off with minimum spend of RM50 on items such as chicken, beef, vegetables, fruits and more.
